COMMON PERSIMMON * DIOSPYROS VIRGINIANA
- Deciduous tree grown partly for the handsome
foliage and partly for their edible fruits. The few cultivated
species are ornamental trees with handsome lustrous foliage,
rarely attacked by insects, and with decorative and edible fruit.
- They thrive in almost any soil, but require, in cooler climates,
sheltered and sunny positions. It will thrive as far north as
Rhode Island and the Great Lakes. Conn. to Florida, west to Kansas
and Texas.
- Fruit is pale orange, often with red cheek and is edible.
- Grows to 50 ft. Rarely to 100 ft.
