HONG KONG ORCHID TREE
- A beautiful subtropical tree, hardy to 28
degrees. Large (5 to 6 inch wide) showy, orchidlike flowers in
fall and early winter; colors vary from deep maroon and purple
to pale rose pink. Partially deciduous, so the flowers make a
dramatic spectacle. Showiest of the Bauhinias.
- Interesting leaves with two lobes. Good patio trees; thin
lightly to remove dead twigs, seedpods and awkward growth after
flowering. Stake when young, but remove stakes after first year.
Protect from winds, which can tatter the leaves. Requires moderate
water.
- To 20 feet high. .
