OAK * QUERCUS
- Deciduous or evergreen (depending on variety),
oaks are ornamental trees grown chiefly for their handsome foliage
and interesting habit. Many species are important timber trees.
- Often stately, tall trees of noble and majestic habit with
massive trunk and stout spreading limbs.
- The deciduous species are most hardy North. Of the evergreens,
none seems to be hardy farther north than Washington, D.C.
- Oaks rank among our most valuable park and avenue trees.
- Over 200 known species are distributed through the colder
and temperate regions of the northern hemisphere and in the mountains
of the tropics.
- Varieties grow from 50 to 150 ft.
