SHAGBARK HICKORY
- The shagbark hickory goes by many other common
names, including mockernut hickory, white-heart hickory and squarenut.
It is native to North America and is hardy to -20 degrees F.
It can be distinguished from other hickories by the fuzz on the
underside of the large (7 inch) leaves.
- Hickories do not transplant easily because they quickly develop
a deep taproot. It is especially critical that new plantings
do not dry out. Once established, they are relatively drought
tolerant if planted where some summer rain can be expected.
- Height to 90 feet.
