SILK TREE
- A delicate, lacy appearance and numerous
feathery pink flowers make this a popular, relatively small western
tree. Although it is hardy to 0 degrees F, it is generally not
recommended for the East and South because of its susceptibility
to webworm and wilt. New resistant varieties are being researched.
- Easy to grow but slow to start; large containers (15 gallon)
or boxed trees will establish the fastest. Needs staking and
pruning when young. Prune lower branches early if clearance below
is desired; naturally low and spreading.
- Will tolerate drought when established, but looks better
with occasional deep irrigation. Numerous seed pods after blooming;
considered messy by some.
- Height to 35 feet.
