SOAPBARK TREE
- The soapbark tree is mainly grown in California,
and is hardy to 15 degrees. The bark will actually lather like
soap and was used for medicinal purposes in its native Chile.
- This evergreen tree has leathery, 2-inch leaves, dark green
on top and soft and hairy underneath. It has one-inch white flowers
followed by interesting fruit capsules that open into a star-like
form.
- Prune when young to establish a strong central trunk. Drought
tolerant once established. Can be used as a tall hedge planting.
- Height to 60 feet.
