TREE MALLOW
- A large shrub native to the Mediterranean,
L. olbia has an interesting leaf habit. Lower leaves are up to
6 inches long and have five lobes, while upper leaves are only
3 inches long and have 3 lobes, with the middle lobe the longest.
- Flowers are reddish purple, about 1/2 inch.
- Height to 6 feet.
- A California native Tree Mallow, L. assurgentiflora, is shrubby
and grows to 15 feet with an equal spread. Showy rose and white
flowers in spring and summer. Good for coastal gardens; drought
tolerant once established.
