TULIP TREE
- The Tulip Tree is native to the eastern U.S.
It is hardy to -20 degrees F, and is a magnificent tree for large
landscapes. Tulip-like, yellowish green flowers appear high in
its branches in early summer or late spring.
- Good fall color; turns bright yellow. The Gold-Edged Tulip
Tree, L.t. "Aurea-marginatum", is smaller, only growing
to 50 feet, and its leaves are prominently edged in yellow.
- Prefers rich, deep, moist loam and slightly acidic soil.
Spreading, shallow root system makes it difficult to grow other
plants and turf underneath.
- Height to 150 feet.
