Western Spirea * Spiraea douglasii
- Native to the U.S., from the Rocky Mountains
to the West Coast, the Western Spiraea has dark green leaves
with velvety white undersides. The twigs are reddish, hairy and
striped.
- Blooms in late summer, with pink flowers in 8-inch clusters
at the ends of the branches.
- Grows in full sun or light shade, needs regular irrigation.
Prune to shape in late winter or early spring when dormant. Hardy
to -30 degrees F.
- Height to 8 feet.
